Well, I currently reside in Plymouth, Devon in the UK at the moment, with my lovely wife Liz and our two cats Herman and Geoffrey. However, plans are afoot for a move to Bristol by next spring / summer. We've lived in Plymouth for the last 3 years, but are both originally from South Wales and I lived in London while I attended University for two years as well.
I've had several jobs, mainly of an administrative vain and currently work for Plymouth City Council as an Administrator. It's not really my ideal job, but it's not too bad, the money's quite good and the people are nice. I'm increasingly feeling though, that it might be time to move on and find a job with a little more responsibility.
Musical Tastes: I try not to resrict myself too much, but I suppose a large proportion of my record collection would be regarded as either Goth or New Romantic. Groups I listen to on a regular basis are: The Sisters of Mercy (who I which would R.I.P), Bowie, Soft Cell/Marc Almond, Fields of the Nephilim, Japan, Human League, Nick Cave (Birthday Party & Bad Seeds), Portishead, Christian Death, Rossetta Stone, Alien Sex Fiend, Necromantic and I could really go on and on...............
Favourite Films: It's
probably easier to just list some of my favourite directors whose films
I invariably love: Woody Allen (private life aside), Wim Wenders (Wings
of Desire being probably my favourite film), Jean Luc Godard (i'd really
like to get around to setting up some sort of on-line resource page for
Godard, who is such and interesting writer/critic and well as film maker,
but detailed information about his various works are really difficult
to come by), David Lynch (I'm such an huge Twin Peaks fan).
Maybe I'll rewrite this as
I love so may films and have only listed a few directors. Plymouth isn't
great for seeing films just slightly out side the mainstream - there's
an Art Centre with one screen which isn't too bad, but the programming
really unadventurous (Now that's a job I'd really really like!). That's
one thing a miss about living in London, all the chose you have. One of
my secret pleasures in life is going to the cinema in the afternoon, which
I used to indulge myself with very often.
Books: It's again easier just to list authors. I love almost anything french or Russian from the 19th Century especially Dostoyevsky, Lemontov, Gogol, Turgenev, Goncharov Puskin and Checkov; Flaubert (Sentimental education is a work of genius), Balzac, Stendhal,Huysmans' "Against Nature", and also Baudelaire's poetry and writings. From the 20th Century it's Camus, F. Scott fitzgerald and Hemingway. Non-Fiction wise I love books on European History, Modern Art, Transgressive and Underground Art and Cinema and anything to do with Warhol and the Factory.
Other Reading Matter: I buy far too many magzines full stop. There another one of my little weaknesses. Most months I buy the three UK "style" mags: i-D, The Face and Dazed & Confused. I think the Face is getting alittle too much up it's own arse, even by it's standards, if your interested in my opinion. i-D and Dazed & Confused cover fasion and art really well and usually have some top photography as well. I occasionally buy Creative Review because of my interest in design (not that you'd tell by the design of this site). I try to get a few Goth fanzines to try and keep abreast of whats happening, which is not easy in Plymouth.I miss the long lamented "Bat's and Red Velvet" magazine and their free compulation cd's. It was easily the best goth zine I've come across.
Interests: Clubbing
(if there was anywhere decent to go in Plymouth, again another reason for
missing London), cinema, art, drinking red wine, and going to the beach
in winter.
